The principle of SoWaM, the terminology coined & the concept conceived by Exnora has innumerable benefits. It includes 'ZERO' waste management. After all zero was innovated in India & Exnora makes the best use of 'ZERO' which produces countless benefits. Some are:
'SOlid WAste Management' concept is simple but will produce tremendous results. It has the following outcome / benefits.
ZERO GARBAGE means only a small quantity of garbage will find its way to landfill.
ZERO GARBAGE will lead to ZERO TRANSPORT of trash, as it will become cash.
ZERO TRANSPORT will lead to ZERO INVESTMENT in purchase of big trucks.
ZERO TRANSPORT will also lead to ZERO COST towards fuel.
ZERO TRANSPORT will lead to ZERO POLLUTION too by the exhaust of trucks.
ZERO GARBAGE will result in ZERO DUMPING of garbage at landfill.
ZERO DUMPING will result in ZERO LAND POLLUTION at landfill.
ZERO DUMPING will result in ZERO SUB-SOIL POLLUTION at landfill.
ZERO DUMPING will result in ZERO GROUND WATER POLLUTION at landfill.
ZERO DUMPING will result in ZERO AIR POLLUTION at Landfill
ZERO is our HERO 'Zero' was innovated in India
So-SoWaM (Source Solid Waste Management - Origin)
The TOP MOST in the hierarchy of SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT (SoWaM) is Source Solid Waste Management (So-SoWaM.) And it is easily the first and the best method in solid waste management. It is done at the very source of solid waste generation. After all the adage is 'NIP IT IN THE BUD'. At least 30% to 40% of garbage generated in a town or village should be dealt at source and converted as wealth. It can be very easily implemented by INCENTIVES* & RECOGNITIONS* to the doer & DISINCENTIVES* to the NON-DOER. It has been proved that 'Source Solid Waste Management' can be done scientifically in a small space with out smell or odor as well as IT IS nuisance-free at source, whatever be the place. It acts as a very good filter in reduction of volume of garbage to the landfill. Highly motivated & enviro-conscious people will certainly subscribe to this idea and practice it. Thus solution to 30% to 40% of waste can be found through So-SoWaM.
De-SoWaM (Decentralized Solid Waste Management - Middle)
The second in the 'SoWaM' hierarchy is Decentralized Solid Waste Management
(De-SoWaM). About 30% to 40% of waste has to be dealt with at the second / third / fourth levels at flat campus, street, colony or ward with INCENTIVES* to the practitioner & DISINCENTIVES* to the non-practitioner. Under De-SoWaM the residents may do only source segregation & the De-Centralized Solid Waste Management (PROCESS) will be done/ managed by the Civic Exnora/ Residents Welfare Association at a common public open space.
Ce-SoWaM (Centralized Solid Waste Management - End)
The third in the hierarchy of SoWaM in which about 20% can be dealt with is
Centralized Solid Waste Management (Ce-SoWaM). The pattern followed in Ce-SoWaM is same like De-SoWaM with people doing a limited exercise of 'source segregation' and with the exception the entire waste is processed at one or two places in sheds or open including adoption of Perennial Landfill concept.
Exception: However for small towns & villages the Ce-SoWaM model can be adopted for the waste generated by the entire population.
